Gem is a family of coffee tables designed to create dynamic and versatile compositions: thanks to the variety of shapes, bases, sizes, heights, materials and finishes, Gem allows for ever-changing combinations. The top, available in glass or ceramic in a wide range of options, is enhanced by a thin perimeter frame in glossy lacquered wood, a precise, discreet yet distinctive edge that emphasises the purity of the form and highlights the material. The metal structure further enhances the design through two different combinations with the top: the base in bronze finish is paired with a glossy lacquered wood edge in glossy brown, while the base in lead finish is combined with a glossy lacquered wood edge in glossy grey, creating refined and coherent pairings.
Marconato and Zappa
For the Gem coffee tables, Marconato and Zappa explore the relationship between form and material. A slender perimeter traces the edge of each top, framing the surface within, while different sizes and heights allow the tables to be used individually or brought together in layered compositions. Marconato and Zappa are an Italian design partnership whose work spans furniture and interior products, with a particular focus on the relationship between materials, proportion and construction. Their longstanding collaboration with Bonaldo has resulted in a diverse collection of designs, from tables and seating to complementary pieces. Across their work, clean architectural lines are often balanced by expressive materials and carefully resolved details, creating pieces that are distinctive without overwhelming the spaces around them.
