Groundpiece Modular Sofa by Flexform

Made in Italy

Designed by Antonio Citterio for Flexform

Groundpiece embodies the quintessence of Flexform comfort and is exceptionally inviting, thanks to the amply-sized goose-down cushions. Groundpiece also allows for the utmost personalization of the padded elements that can be crafted in goose down, in the premium version, or in Dacron. Aware that changes in lifestyle spark new behaviors and needs, Groundpiece introduced a new dimension to the way the sofa is used, investing it with new functions. On today’s sofas, people rest, watch TV, read, and often work and even have dinner. This also led to the brilliant idea of redesigning the armrest concept, which in Groundpiece can either be padded and upholstered or a cowhide-clad metal console, that can be used as a flat surface for accessories and provided with shelves to hold objects of all kinds.

Available in a different sizes, configurations and as a modular sofa.

Antonio Citterio

Antonio Citterio is one of Italy’s most influential architects and designers, with a career spanning architecture, interiors and industrial design. Internationally recognised and the recipient of prestigious design honours including the ADI Compasso d’Oro, his longstanding collaboration with Flexform has produced some of the brand’s most recognisable and enduring designs. Groundpiece, designed in 2001, marked a pivotal moment. Recognising that the way people lived with a sofa had changed, Citterio created a low, deep and informal modular system that brought comfort, storage and everyday life into one composition. By rethinking the traditional armrest as a functional console and storage element, Groundpiece introduced a new way of using the sofa — an original idea that would influence contemporary modular design.
